Oh and there's some kind of green life stream that once gave energy to the world but has been infected. it's hard to fully get on board with this extended cut, which kills the momentum, ruins the pacing and leaves it a much more arduous task to fight your way to the good stuff at the endĪttempting to explain the story is something of a fool's errand - ironic considering that's precisely what some of the additional footage and narration tries to do - but it involves the aftermath of the events of the game, where three new 'brothers' attempt to resurrect the villainous fallen warrior Sephiroth, necessitating reluctant hero Cloud to step up to the plate and fight them, something he's only prepared to do when the lives of a bunch of young children are in the balance. Unfortunately, even with an extended opening, and plenty of additional exposition, Advent Children is still a hard watch - possibly even more so in its longer cut as it dilutes the potential for a sheer audiovisual experience - but with a little background reading and a fair amount of attention to detail, it's still an engaging ride, particularly once it gets going. A couple of years later it was released in a longer form, with almost half an hour of additional footage, earning the "Complete" bit in its title. Spirits Within was arguably before its time, and likely well worth a fresh watch should this be the next FF title to get revisited, and the latest release - Kingsglaive - is actually pretty good, but 2005's Advent Children didn't even try to be accessible to newcomers, instead positing a variety of admittedly impressive cut-scenes and hoping that you'd simply be wowed by the sheer visuals on offer.

#FINAL FANTASY 7 MOD ADVENT CHILDREN AUDIO MOVIE#
There's no denying the popularity of the Final Fantasy games, but their various crossovers to the movie realm have been something of a mixed bag for those not versed in the magical realm and its dense and unforgiving lore. Final Fantasy VII fans will undoubtedly celebrate revisiting the extended cut of this animated sequel, but it's still just as impenetrable as ever for those new to the parade.
